GERICON 2025 Highlights Collaborative Care as Cornerstone of Age-Friendly Healthcare

This year’s theme, “Collaborative Care in Geriatrics – Advancing Towards an Age-Friendly Healthcare System,”

The Department of Geriatric Medicine at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, successfully hosted GERICON 2025, the 22nd Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics (IAG), from 13–15 November 2025. The three-day national event convened leading clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and allied health professionals from across India and abroad to chart a new course for geriatric care in an ageing nation.

This year’s theme, “Collaborative Care in Geriatrics – Advancing Towards an Age-Friendly Healthcare System,” emphasised the growing need for interdisciplinary teamwork to improve functional independence, clinical outcomes, and quality of life for older adults.

The conference featured a rich scientific program including plenary lectures, symposia, panel discussions, and research presentations focused on key geriatric domains such as frailty, sarcopenia, geriatric oncology, cognitive decline, rehabilitation, ethics, and community-based care.

Distinguished experts including Dr. Niharika Suchak, Dr. Maw Pin Tan, Dr. Anand Ambali, Dr. Chandershekhar Guru, and Dr. Parikshit Sanyal led sessions that brought fresh perspectives to India’s evolving geriatric care landscape. The Presidential Oration was delivered by Dr. Surekha V on the inspirational theme “Go Light Your World.” The Keynote Address, delivered by Dr. Niharika Suchak, focused on “The 4Ms of Geriatrics: Advancing Towards an Age-Friendly Health Care System,” underscoring global frameworks for elder-centered care.

GERICON 2025 also marked the release of the latest issue of the Journal of the Indian Academy of Geriatrics, reinforcing the academic and research commitment of the fraternity. Global perspectives were shared by international faculty including Dr. Irma Everink (Netherlands) and Dr. Tohru Minamino (Japan), reflecting the growing global collaboration in geriatric medicine.

With India’s elderly population projected to rise sharply in the coming decades, GERICON 2025 stands as a timely and impactful platform, pushing forward the collective mission to build a more inclusive, responsive, and age-friendly healthcare system.
