World Immunisation Week is observed from April 24th to April 30th every year. This year, the theme for World Immunisation Week is ‘For Every Generation, Vaccines Work’ and celebrates the life-saving impact of vaccines, raising awareness surrounding the importance of immunisation across every stage of life. It also focuses on the way vaccines protect people of all age groups- from children, infants, to adults and senior citizens.
Vaccines have been regarded as one of the most powerful public health tools, saving the lives of over 150 million people. At present, vaccines against HPV, malaria, meningitis, dengue, and others are saving a greater number of lives, enabling people at every stage of life to live longer and in a healthier way. For years, vaccinations have helped to lower hospitalisations and prevent critical diseases.
The theme for World Immunisation Week this year sheds light on how vaccination is not just for children. Though childhood immunisation is significant, vaccines also play a crucial role in adult, adolescent and elderly healthcare. For younger generations, vaccines give a healthy start to life by preventing potentially life-threatening childhood diseases. For working-age adults, immunisation helps in reducing health risks and complications arising from infections. For older adults, vaccines help in lowering the risk of extreme diseases, supporting healthier ageing.
In the evolving healthcare landscape of the current times, digital health services, vaccination models such as at-home vaccination services and pharmacy-led awareness campaigns are helping to turn preventive healthcare more efficient as well as easy for modern families.
Sharing his thoughts on World Immunisation Week, Gaurav Verma, Chief Business Officer, PharmEasy, said: “Vaccination remains one of the most effective, evidence-backed interventions in preventive healthcare. It significantly reduces the burden of infectious diseases and their complications. At PharmEasy, we are focused on strengthening preventive care by driving awareness around vaccine-preventable illnesses and improving access to essential immunisation services. Adult vaccination is often overlooked despite clear clinical recommendations for vaccines such as Influenza, HPV, Typhoid, Hepatitis, and Pneumococcal, particularly for individuals with underlying risk factors or comorbidities. Our at-home vaccination service aims to address this gap by enabling safe, convenient, and timely access to these vaccines in the comfort of one’s home. By making preventive care more accessible, we aim to empower more people to take charge of their health and contribute to a broader reduction in avoidable disease burden.”
