Orthodontics in India is undergoing a major transformation, driven by rising patient awareness, digital innovation, and the growing demand for aesthetic, technology-enhanced treatments. Leading this shift is Clove Dental, which has launched its first Orthodontic Centre of Excellence, a specialised, technology-forward facility dedicated entirely to braces and aligner treatments. With more than 30,000 orthodontic patients under active care nationwide, Clove recognised the need for a focused, aseptic, full-time specialist environment that could deliver consistent results and eliminate treatment delays caused by missed or infrequent follow-up visits.
In this exclusive interview for MedTech Spectrum, Lt Gen Dr Vimal Arora, Chief Clinical Officer at Clove Dental, shares the vision behind creating a standalone orthodontic hub, how advanced digital scanning and patient-education zones are reshaping the treatment journey, and what this new model means for clinical precision, convenience, and long-term outcomes. He also offers insights into the rising demand for aligners, shifting patient expectations, and how Clove plans to replicate this specialised model nationwide to define the future of orthodontic care in India.
Clove Dental has launched its first Orthodontic Centre of Excellence. What inspired the idea of creating a dedicated facility exclusively for braces and aligner treatments?
Clove Dental is currently treating over 30,000 patients of braces and aligners across India. We realised that these treatments need time, special care, and the latest technology. Orthodontic treatments usually take around 1 to 2 years to complete, where patients need to come every month for their follow-up visit every month. Lack of routine follow-up visits not only can result in delay in the treatment but also can lead to treatment failure. For that reason, itself, we wanted to open an exclusive Orthodontic Centre where even if the patient misses out an appointment, he/she can take an appointment at this centre and continue with the orthodontic treatment. Here, everything is designed to make the process smoother for patients and easier for doctors. It also gives our orthodontists a place to work together, share ideas, and provide the best possible results for every patient who walks in.
How does this specialised centre differ from traditional dental setups, and what unique value does it bring to both patients and orthodontic professionals?
A regular dental clinic handles many types of dental problems, but this centre is made exclusively for braces and aligner treatments. The entire Centre is designed especially for orthodontic care. Because there are no other procedures being undertaken at this Centre like Fillings, Extractions, Root Canal Treatment etc., so this Centre is absolutely Aseptic and sterile. There is no waiting for the right specialist, as 2-3 orthodontists are available full-time throughout the week to handle consultations, routine follow-up visits or any emergencies immediately. This setup also allows specialists to work closely together, share ideas, and learn from each other, ensuring the highest level of care. For patients, this means fewer delays, better follow-ups, and more consistent results. Overall, the centre provides a modern, comfortable, and focused environment where both patients and orthodontists can get the best experience throughout the entire treatment journey.
The centre integrates advanced digital scanning and interactive patient education zones. Could you elaborate on how these technologies are enhancing diagnosis, treatment precision, and patient engagement?
The centre uses advanced digital scanners that replace the conventional dental impressions. This modern technology makes the process faster, cleaner, and far more accurate, allowing orthodontists to plan treatments with great precision. One of the most unique features of the centre is the interactive display zone, also known as the touch-and-feel area. Here, patients can actually see, hold, and feel different types of braces and aligners before making a choice. They can compare how each appliance looks, understand how it works, and decide what feels most comfortable and suitable for them. This hands-on experience removes confusion and builds confidence, especially for first-time orthodontic patients. The digital scans turns the entire treatment selection process into an engaging, transparent, and reassuring experience.
Orthodontic care often involves long-term treatment. How does the full-time availability of orthodontists at the centre improve convenience and continuity of care for patients?
Orthodontic treatment is a long-term process that requires regular check-ups, timely adjustments, and close monitoring by a specialist. As the teeth are being moved within the bone, it is extremely important to always have a good supportive periodontium where teeth can be moved with appropriate forces. There will be routine visits of other Specialists to ensure that the periodontal structure is healthy to bring about tooth movements. We are treating all kind of complex cases at this Centre that includes Class III malocclusions, jaw discrepancies and orthognathic surgeries. The Orthodontists are well trained to use the Orthodontic Micro-implants which are highly technique sensitive. At this centre, the full-time presence of orthodontists ensures that patients always have access to expert care with no delays. If someone misses an appointment, faces an issue like a broken bracket, or an impinging wire, it can be handled immediately. This greatly improves treatment continuity and saves patients from the hassle of rescheduling or waiting to get the work done till the next visit thereby avoiding any delays.
With growing awareness around cosmetic and functional orthodontics, how do you see patient preferences evolving in India, especially with the rise of clear aligners and digital treatment planning?
In recent years, people in India have become much more aware of the benefits of orthodontic treatments, not just for appearance but also for oral health and confidence. There is a clear shift in preference toward more aesthetic and comfortable options like clear aligners, which are nearly invisible and easy to wear. Many young adults and working professionals prefer these because they fit seamlessly into daily life without affecting looks or speech. Parents too, are more open to modern solutions for their children that are safe, efficient, and less painful. With digital scanning and computer-based treatment planning, patients can now see what their final smile will look like before even starting. This transparency builds trust and excitement. At Clove Dental, we offer a full range of options ranging from traditional braces to advanced clear aligners, so that every patient can choose what best suits their comfort, lifestyle, and budget while achieving a healthy, beautiful smile.
Looking ahead, does Clove Dental plan to replicate this Centre of Excellence model in other cities? How do you envision the future of orthodontic care across your nationwide network?
Clove Dental plans to expand the Orthodontic Centre of Excellence model to other major cities across India. This is a highly advanced Research and Training Centre where the latest techniques and innovations are being practised. The goal is to make specialised orthodontic care easily available to people everywhere. Each new centre will follow the same high standards of treatment, technology, and patient experience as the first one. They will be equipped with digital scanners, interactive display zones, and full-time availability of orthodontists to ensure consistent quality and convenience. This model ensures that patients in any city receive the same level of expertise and care. Clove Dental aims to build a strong network of orthodontic centres where advanced, affordable, and comfortable braces and aligner treatments are accessible to all, shaping the future of orthodontic care across India.
