High-performance navigation of catheters and devices in neuro and peripheral vascular procedures

Rapid Medical, a leading developer of advanced endovascular devices, announced at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery (SNIS) 2024 that it had performed the first procedure in the U.S. using the breakthrough deflectable access platform, DRIVEWIRE 24. DRIVEWIRE uses active technology that allows attachment to a variety of catheters for direct access to intravascular locations.

DRIVEWIRE provides extraordinary intravascular steering capabilities. Physicians can control the direction and shape of the guidewire tip in real time, without removing the guidewire to reshape it. The device also features variable support to accommodate a variety of micro and mid-sized catheters, without the need for advanced guides or additional support devices. This allows for precise navigation through the most direct path through nerves and peripheral vessels.

“DRIVEWIRE was designed to improve upon best-in-class guidewires while significantly increasing access and control during interventional procedures,” said Giora Kornblau, Chief Technology Officer at Rapid Medical . “We want Rapid to be the first choice for physicians looking for technology that will improve clinical possibilities and patient safety.”

In two cases completed by Dr. Majidi, DRIVEWIRE 24 navigated the aspiration catheter directly to the M2 artery occlusion, resulting in excellent reperfusion. In the second case, DRIVEWIRE performed complex steering navigation in a large multilobate aneurysm, resulting in the placement of two flow diverters.

"DRIVEWIRE addresses a significant unmet need in the endovascular field," said Dr. Shahram Majidi , Mount Sinai Health System, New York , NY. "It changes the way procedures are approached, from aneurysms to strokes. We are always looking for devices that make surgeries faster, safer, and less expensive."
