National M.Sc Medical Teachers’ Association (NMMTA) hosts 5th Annual Conference on AI and diagnostic advancements

As technology rapidly evolves, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare professionals are increasingly exploring innovative ways to incorporate these advancements into their practices. The National M.Sc Medical Teachers’ Association (NMMTA) organized 5th Annual Conference on AI and Diagnostic Advancements.

NMMTA President Dr. Arjun Maitra said, “AI can enhance diagnostic accuracy, streamline patient management, and transform healthcare delivery, emphasizing the critical need for ongoing dialogue and adaptation within the medical community.” He described the conference as a “homecoming” for professionals in the field, highlighting the invaluable connections formed at such events. Dr. Maitra expressed hope for even greater participation in future conferences, fostering an inclusive atmosphere for collaboration and growth in medical sciences. This year’s theme, “Artificial Intelligence & Current Diagnostic Advancements in Healthcare System,” resonated profoundly with current trends and challenges in medical research. Attendees engaged in rich discussions about the potential of AI to improve patient outcomes and drive the future of diagnostics, making the theme not only timely but essential for modern medical education. The conference was graced by notable figures in the medical community. Dr. Harbans Lal, a distinguished pioneer of the ELISA test in India and a Professor of Biochemistry, served as the Chief Guest. His presence underscored the importance of innovative research in transforming medical practices. Pankaj Mishra, Registrar R&D of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, was the Guest of Honour, further emphasizing the institutional support for such advancements.

The program featured a series of insightful lectures from renowned speakers. Dr. Rajesh Bareja, Professor of Microbiology at World Medical College, Jhajjar, presented an engaging session on the applications of artificial intelligence in research publications. He emphasized how AI can streamline the research process, enhance data analysis, and ultimately lead to more robust findings in modern medicine. Dr. Sukhes Mukherjee, Professor of Biochemistry at AIIMS, Bhopal, shared his expertise on “Advancements in Diagnostic Biochemistry and the Role of Artificial Intelligence.” His presentation illustrated how AI technologies can revolutionize diagnostic methods, making them faster and more accurate, which is crucial for timely disease detection. Dr. Arjun Maitra, NMMTA President and Associate Professor of Physiology at Dr. S.S. Tantia Medical College, Sri Ganganagar, provided valuable insights into ‘Pulse Wave Analysis’, a technique assessing arterial health and cardiovascular parameters. His discussion emphasized the relevance of this technique in preventive medicine and its potential integration into routine health assessments. Another noteworthy session was led by Dr. Damini Singh and Dr. Vipin Sharma from Spectevo Technologies Pvt. Ltd., who focused on the “Establishment of Diagnostic Labs: Planning, Designing, and Commissioning.” This session was particularly beneficial for those looking to set up diagnostic facilities, covering essential aspects from design to implementation.

In addition to discussing advancements, NMMTA representatives highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by medical educators. Recently, Dr. Arjun Maitra and Dr. Ayan Das, General Secretary of NMMTA, met with the Honorable Health Minister of India, Shri JP Nadda, to address pressing concerns regarding the regulations set forth by the National Medical Commission (NMC). They expressed concerns over how these regulations have led to significant staffing shortages in medical colleges, adversely affecting the quality of education and training for future healthcare professionals. Minister Nadda responded positively, requesting a comprehensive report from the Joint Secretary of Medical Education to detail the challenges faced by medical institutions. Dr. Maitra emphasized the need for the NMC to reconsider its stance, stating, “The continued reliance on legal measures undermines our primary goal of nurturing future healthcare professionals. We believe that with the Ministry’s support, we can create a more equitable framework that values the contributions of all educators.”

Dozen research scholars presented their findings on various topics related to pre-clinical and para-clinical medical subjects. Each presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session, allowing for engaging discussions and feedback. The quality of research presented was commendable, with each scholar evaluated on their presentation skills and the rigor of their research. Ms. Meghlatha T.S. was awarded first place for her research titled “Assessing the Efficacy of Withaferin-A and Propolis on DNA Protein Crosslinks and DNA Damages Induced by Benzo[a]pyrene in Breast Cancer.” Her work exemplified the innovative spirit and scientific inquiry that the conference aims to promote. Mr. Mohit Suyal secured second place, while Mr. Vijay Kumar was awarded third place for their respective presentations, further demonstrating the depth of talent present at the event.

Dr. Sridhar Rao, the founder of NMMTA, expressed pride in the association’s progress, noting that NMMTA is proving its mettle in the medical education landscape. He emphasized the importance of such conferences in nurturing a community of educators and researchers committed to advancing medical science.  The conference concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. Ayan Das, Secretary of NMMTA, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants, speakers, and organizers. The success of this year’s event reinforces the importance of dialogue and collaboration in medical research and education. With the promise to reconvene at a new destination next year, NMMTA aims to continue its mission of enhancing medical education and research, ensuring that professionals remain at the forefront of scientific advancements. This vibrant annual event has become a beacon of collaboration and ingenuity, attracting over 100 esteemed delegates from medical colleges nationwide to share groundbreaking ideas and research findings.
