Toshiba announces over $92,000 for 20 Innovative Classroom STEM Projects

The Toshiba America Foundation (TAF) proudly announces the award of $92,361 in grants to support 20 cutting-edge STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education initiatives for students in grades 6 through 12. This funding will enhance learning in biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, math, and environmental sciences through hands-on projects and community-focused problem-solving.

Among the awarded projects, Mr. Escalada-Mastick’s students will leverage a CNC machine funded by TAF to convert local waste into functional items, gaining hands-on experience in subtractive manufacturing and computer-assisted design. These skills aim to ignite student interest in STEM and prepare them for future employment opportunities.

"STEM careers are crucial to sustaining the U.S. economy's innovation and growth," said John Anderson, President of TAF. "By supporting dynamic STEM education, we aim to inspire the problem solvers and pioneers of tomorrow. TAF’s commitment is to equip educators with the tools to provide stimulating and interactive learning environments."

TAF’s unique approach provides "direct-to-teacher" funding, enabling educators to immediately implement inventive teaching methods and hands-on learning. The grants support the acquisition of new equipment and project-based learning opportunities, moving beyond traditional textbook education to engage students in the joy of active STEM discovery.

STEM educators interested in applying for a K-5 TAF grant should apply here by Oct. 1. STEM educators interested in applying for a 6-12 TAF grant can apply here. The deadlines for > $5K are May 1 and Nov. 1. The deadlines for < $5K are March 1, June 1, Sept. 1, and Dec. 1.
