Cambridge-based medical device startup SurgiBox Inc. receives utility and design patents for its SurgiField™ technology, enhancing mobile surgical capabilities with advanced airflow and smart control innovations.
SurgiBox Inc., a Cambridge, Massachusetts medical device startup that aims to revolutionize mobile surgery with its flagship SurgiField™ product, is pleased to announce it has received two United States Patents for its core technology. The first US patent involves an innovative airflow technology for clean surgery and is a utility patent, while the second US patent is a design patent on its user-friendly single-button automated Smart Control Module™ technology. SurgiBox's SurgiField™ product combines an innovative inflatable sterile drape with an automated, battery-powered, ultraportable HEPA air filtration system. The system is protected by patents in over 20 countries.
Kelly Laurel, MBA, a retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel, and Vice-President of SurgiBox, stated that, "the patents will aid SurgiBox in commercializing its revolutionary technology in the United States."
Atif Rakin, Chief Technology Officer of SurgiBox and Principal Investigator on a new device funded by the US Defense Health Agency, stated that, "the US patents will support our next generation of research and development, which will build upon the first SurgiField™ product. I am pleased to share that the next generation of product, which will support deployment of surgical fields in extreme environments, is under development with a strategic partner."
