Patient made successful recovered after five days on ECMO
Citizens Specialty Hospital's exceptional Emergency, Critical Care, and Cardiology team recently achieved a remarkable medical feat by saving the life of a 35-year-old male patient. The team's swift and relentless efforts, including one hour of uninterrupted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), played a pivotal role in the patient's survival.
Venkatesh a 35-year-old male was experiencing severe chest pain around 5:30 am in the morning for an hour. Upon the patient’s arrival at Citizens Specialty Hospital, the patient was in a critical condition and collapsed in the ER. Recognizing the urgency of the situation Dr Nikhil Bhargav and Dr Priyanka Guntur from Emergency team wasted no time and performed uninterrupted CPR for a full hour and stabilized the patient’s condition.
Following the successful administration of CPR, Dr Sudheer Koganti, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist performed primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), a procedure to restore blood flow to the heart. After the procedure, the patient was shifted to MICU for observation. Additionally, the patient was placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to stabilize the continuous deteriorating condition by Critical Care team. ECMO is a life-saving technology that provides cardiac and respiratory support.
Elaborating on the procedure, Dr Sudheer Koganti, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Citizen Specialty Hospital said, “In cardiac care every minute matters.
